William “Grumpy Bill” Scott, 76, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on May 29, 1942, in Denison, the son of George and Frances (Helbling) Scott. Bill was raised and educated in Dow City and graduated from Dow City High School in 1960. He then attended Creighton University. In 1964 Bill joined the United States Navy and served honorably from 1964 to 1970 during the Vietnam War.
In 1970 Bill purchased his first bar in Wayne, Nebraska. In 1978 he moved to Denison, Iowa, and opened his second bar, “The Rib Cage”. Over the years, Bill has owned bars in Marion, Delhi, and most recently owned “Grumpy Bill’s” in Manchester.
Bill was an avid New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Twice during his life Bill enjoyed canoeing the Mississippi River from Lake Pippin, Minnesota, to Memphis, Tennessee. Bill enjoyed being with other people and was a proud supporter of fellow veterans.
Survivors include his son, J.W. (Jess Darrow) Scott of Altoona; two granddaughters, Anna and Ella; his brother George; and his sister, Barb.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael.
