Wilma Retha Schmitt, 91, of Edgewood, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on October 24, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of William and Eula (Hise) Trainor. Wilma was raised and educated in Waterloo.
On June 16, 1945,Wilma was united in marriage to Clarence “Curly” Schmitt. They enjoyed farming together from 1946 to 1979 near Dewar, Dunkerton, Wadena, and Volga. In 1979 they moved to Arizona where their new adventure began with their team of Morgans and a surrey.
Wilma had such an outgoing personality and loved to accessorize her outfits so working in jewelry and clothing stores were a perfect fit.
Wilma enjoyed preparing many delicious meals for family and friends, especially fried chicken and the best pies. You never left hungry. Their home was always open to everyone, with coffee on and a freshly baked dessert.
Wilma and Curly made friends wherever they lived. They enjoyed playing cards, telling stories of all their adventures they shared together along with much laughter.
Survivors include her two children, Cindy Waskow of Marion, and Kevin (Karen) Schmitt of Solon ;her daughter-in-law, Linda Schmitt of Wadena; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Curly” Schmitt on April 22, 2014; her parents,
William and Eula Trainor, a son Bryan Schmitt; and a son-in-law, Dennis Waskow.
