Agatha Grace Scott, 97, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa. She was born on August 25, 1924, near Colesburg, the daughter of Ralph and Rose (Gleason) Barger. Agatha was raised in the Colesburg area and attended school in Edgewood.
On September 12, 1943, Agatha was united in marriage to Frederick Scott at the Congregational Church in Edgewood. Two daughters were born to this union. Agatha worked as a cook for the Edgewood School District for several years. She also worked as a waitress in Strawberry Point. Agatha was a resident of the Edgewood Convalescent Home since 2019.
Agatha taught Sunday school and bible school, and led the women’s bible study class at the Congregational Church. She received the Governor’s Award for Volunteering. Agatha loved to sing and sang in the church choir and in trios with her two sisters. She also enjoyed writing poetry and making crafts.
Survivors include her husband of 78 years, Frederick Scott of Strawberry Point; her daughter, Sue Ann (Gary) Karlson of Scottsdale, Arizona; two grandchildren, Connie Karlson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Michael Karlson of North Richland Hills, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Karlson of North Richland Hills, Texas; a brother-in-law, Alvin Scott of Strawberry Point; and several nieces and nephews.
Agatha was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter in infancy, Karen Lee Scott; two sisters, Vanita Chopard and Ilo Abel; and a sister-in-law, Esther Scott.
