Arlene F. Langel, 96, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. She was born on January 19, 1929 in Petersburg, the daughter of John and Hilda (Hermsen) Bockenstedt. Arlene was raised on the family farm and attended school in Petersburg.
On November 5, 1952, Arlene was united in marriage to Ambrose Langel at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Together, Arlene and Ambrose farmed near Dyersville, then east of Dundee. They retired to Manchester in 1991. Arlene has resided at the Good Neighbor Home since May of 2025.
Arlene enjoyed gardening, mowing her yard, and tending her flowers. She was a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.
Arlene will be missed by her two sons, Daniel (Janice) Langel of Dundee and Richard (Linda) Langel of Manchester; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two siblings, John Bockenstedt of Cedar Rapids and Virgil (Sue) Bockenstedt of Asbury; sisters-in-law, Valeria Bockenstedt of Manchester, Mary Bockenstedt and Helen Krogmann of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Ambrose in 2013; her parents; sisters, Ruth Ann Bockenstedt, Jan (Henry) Oberbroeckling, and Pearl (Vic) Meier; brothers Irvin Bockenstedt, Vernon (Sharon) Bockenstedt, Walter Bockenstedt; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bockenstedt; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Langel; two step-grandchildren, Rodney Cozad and Chad Cozad; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
