Arthur “Art” M. Fudge, Jr., 93, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in Center Point, Iowa. He was born on May 16, 1932, in New Sharon, Iowa, the son of Arthur M. and Eva Gail (Fisher) Fudge. He graduated from New Sharon High School in 1950. Art attended and graduated from the University of Iowa where he lettered in both cross country and track. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1954 and his master’s degree in 1957.
On August 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Betty Tanner at the Ladora Methodist Church in Ladora, Iowa. They were blessed with three children and shared 70 years together.
Art’s career in education started as a teacher and coach in Ladora, Iowa from 1954-1955. From there he taught and coached in Buck Creek, Iowa from 1955-1957 and at United Township in East Moline, Illinois, from 1957-1959. He then became the Assistant Superintendent of Schools at Mid Prairie in West Chester, Iowa from 1959-1961. Followed by the Superintendent of Schools at Ed-Co in Edgewood, Iowa from 1961-1970 and at Alburnett, Iowa from 1970-1978. In 1978 Art left education and owned and operated F & F Insurance, Ltd, in Edgewood until his retirement in 1998.
Art was active in both his community and career serving on many different boards and committees. He served on several education boards including: the American & Iowa School Administrators Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. He served on several insurance boards, as well as several United Methodist Church committees and leadership positions at both the local and state level. He was involved in many local community boards, councils and clubs. He served several years as the Kinderwood Daycare Treasurer, the Grin & Bear It and E-C Investment Club Treasurers; and enjoyed being a timer at the Drake Relays, as well as starting many local track meets.
When Art had free time, he enjoyed fishing, including the trips to Minnesota and Canada with family and friends, golfing, playing cards, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; their three children, Craig (Kathy Endres) Fudge of Woodbury, Minnesota, Jeanie Belding of Marion, and Becky (Ken) Ditch of Center Point; six grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Ditch, Michelle (Mike) Halac, Jackie Belding, Meaghan (Ben) Daggett, Matthew Fudge, and James Belding; seven great-grandchildren, A.J., Addy, Victoria, Austin, Joshua, Kennedy, and Kasen; sisters-in-law, Patty Fudge of Attica and Colette Fudge of Norman, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Gary Tanner of Victor; and several nieces and nephews.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ronald Fudge and Larry Fudge, niece, Holly K. (Fudge) Nelson; parents-in-law, Harold and Hazel Tanner; brother-in-law, Jerry Tanner; and sisters-in-law, Judy Tanner and Rosie Tanner.
