Bessie Yvonne “Hap” Mattice, 94, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on February 17, 1926, in Independence, the daughter of Allan and Geraldine (McDonald) Haley. Hap was raised and educated in Dundee and graduated from Dundee High School in 1943.
On December 31, 1944, Hap was united in marriage to Gordon Mattice in Independence. Four children were born to this union. The couple farmed together south of Manchester in Prairie Township until their retirement in 1998 and they moved to Manchester.
Hap enjoyed visiting with her family, especially her sisters who lived in the area. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Hap enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include her two sons, M.J. Mattice and Harold (Sara) Mattice, both of Manchester; three grandchildren, Savannah (Nic) Yossi, Garrett Mattice, and Ellen Mattice; two great-grandchildren, Cohen Yossi and Ruxin Yossi; her siblings, Kenneth Haley of Billings, Montana, Beverly (Jim) Evert of Marion, and Frances (Lowell) Benning of Missouri; her good friend, Jane Hillier of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Hap was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon in 2013; her daughter, Regina Mattice in 1975; an infant son; two sisters, Geraldine (Bud) Wessels, and Mona (Warren) Hillier; and one brother Fred (Shirley) Haley.
