Beverly G. MacTaggart, 90, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on April 30, 1933, in rural northeast Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Velma (Jencks) Stone. As a young girl, Bev attended several rural schools. She was a 1950 graduate of Strawberry Point High School.
On July 15, 1951, Bev was united in marriage to John Duncan MacTaggart at the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point. Five children were born to this union. Bev worked side by side with John on the farm. She worked at the Lutheran Home and Gernand Center for over 16 years. Bev also worked for Swales Concrete. She was a volunteer at the Wilder Museum.
Bev was a longtime, active member of the Strawberry Point United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Grange, the Social Sisters Neighborhood Club, and the Red Hat Society. Bev was a wonderful cook and baker, making all her children’s wedding cakes. She loved big family gatherings and Sunday dinners with her family. Bev was an avid Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Above all else, Bev cherished the times spent with her family.
Survivors include her four sons, Michel (Bev) MacTaggart of Cedar Rapids, Stephen (Janet) MacTaggart of Cedar Falls, Marc (Lynn) MacTaggart of Manchester, and Shawn (Julie) MacTaggart of Strawberry Point; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; brothers-in-law, Verl MacTaggart of Kansas, and Earl MacTaggart of Colorado; sister-in-law, Mary Garrett of Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 2009; her daughter, Ann at birth; brother, Robert (Ava) Stone; and two sisters, Darlene (Kenneth) Sewell and Dorothy (Bill) Pettitt.
