Carl Allen Martens, 74, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, formally of Edgewood, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood as a result of cancer. He was born on March 28, 1950, at the Willard General Hospital in Manchester, son of Henry and Katie (Bowers) Martens. Carl attended Edgewood-Colesburg Community School, graduating in the Class of 1970.
He worked through the years at various Edgewood businesses, Karl’s Grocery, Eastern Iowa Shopper, and Town and Country. Carl also belonged to different organizations around the area. He enjoyed playing cards, putting together model cars, going to garage sales, and working on scrapbooks. Carl enjoyed working outside and going on car rids with friends, visiting interesting sights around Iowa and nearby states. Time with family meant a lot to him.
Survivors include his many nieces and nephews, Pat Morley, Barb (Jim) Hutchinson, Sandy (Gerald) Dennie, Mike Wilsey, Deb Newcomb, Larry (Lisa) Lamb, David (Ann) Knipper, Marilyn Sundermeyer, and Dennis (Annette) Knipper; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents; his four sisters, Doris (Earl) Lamb, Betty (Raymond) Knipper, Marie (Keith) Harbaugh, and Donna Belle Martens; and nieces and nephews, Christine Harbaugh, Ken Harbaugh, Cheryl (Ed) Cinkan, Steve Knipper, and Harry Morley.
