Catherine Ann (Bennington) McTaggart

Catherine Ann McTaggart, 80, of Volga, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union. She was born on January 2, 1943, in Elkader, the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Neylan) Bennington.  Catherine was raised and educated in the Volga area. She graduated from Volga High School in 1961.

Catherine was united in marriage to John Pope, Jr.  Four children were born to this union. The couple raised their children on the family farm near Volga. They were later divorced. Catherine was then united in marriage to Dennis McTaggart. She and Dennis moved to Hines, Minnesota. While there Catherine went to nursing school in Bemidji, Minnesota and received her LPN license. After Dennis passed away, Catherine moved to Iowa where she worked at nursing homes. Eventually she moved to Volga.

Catherine enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing, reading and her pets.  She most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her four children, Pat (Joan) Pope of Volga, Ray (Jane) Pope of Strawberry Point, Bob (Lisa) Pope of Strawberry Point, and Cathy (Jay) Mills of Strawberry Point; 14 grandchildren, J.P. (Katie) Pope, Matt (Amy) Pope, Kelsey (Justin) Mueller, Kandice Pope, Kristen (Chris) Doeppke, Andrew (Chrissy) Pope, Nick Pope, Ethan (Kelley) Stoen, Katie (Jake) Bass, Jackson Pope, Autumn Pope, Alex Pope, Aylee (Ben) Klostermann, and Jake (Rachel) Mills; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rita Dillon and DiAnn (Nick) Peterman both of Cedar Rapids.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; her siblings, Shirley (Oliver) Biederman, Patty (Jim) Shea, Lucy (Bill) Steed, James Bennington, and John Bennington; and her brother-in-law, Eddie Dillon.
