Charles (Chuck) Edward Fischer, 92, of Manchester, Iowa, left his earthly home to join the love of his life and his Lord on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. He was born July 16, 1928, in Petersburg, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Weber) Fischer. Chuck attended school in Petersburg and Earlville. Chuck worked at Farley Loetcher Factory for a few years in Dubuque. He then served honorably in the United States Army, serving as a military police officer and paratrooper. Chuck was also in the active Army Reserve for 10 years.
On May 5th, 1953, Chuck was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene Hoefer, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi, by Reverend Loras J. Holmberg. Seven children were born to this union. Chuck farmed hand in hand with Darlene for almost 50 years before retiring to town in 1990.
Chuck was a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Earlville American Legion Post #236 where he served as a past commander. He was one who loved and enjoyed his family. His work was very important to him and he was passionate about farming. Chuck enjoyed fishing, adding to his cap collection and afternoon drives with Darlene. He was proud of his time in the service, loved to share stories and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
Survivors include his six children, Charles Jr. (Mary) Fischer of New Vienna, Marie (Neil) Willenborg of Petersburg, Arthur Fischer of Dubuque, Sandi (Dan) Stelken, Bob (Dawne) Fischer, and Cheri (Gerry) Heims, all of Manchester; seventeen grandchildren, Tanya (David) Hill, Eddy (Leizyl) Willenborg, Jessica (Bryan) Flexsenhar, Nic (Tisha) Stelken, Ashten Stelken, Kristy (Josh) Howell, Kathy (Clint) Fortier , Karrie (Joe) Heister , Kevin Fischer, Amber (Timmy) Andrews, Ryan (Kinzi) Fischer, Jeremy (friend Shawne Hoeger) Fischer, Brianna Fischer; Mitch (Lindsey) Heims, Holly (Seth) Inman , Allison (Nick) LaRosa, and Ashley Heims; twenty great-grandchildren, Brandon (fiance, Jessica Bohnstengel), Grant, and Jacob (friend Sunshine) Hill, Reagan and Keegan Stelken, Emily and Tyler Knoppe, Calvin and Lexie Willenborg, Elsie, Lucy, Adelyne, and Leo Flexsenhar, Hope, Ethan, and Emmalyn Howell, Cam Heister, Owen and Aria Andrews, and Wells Fischer, and one on the way; one brother-in-law, Charles Hoefer of Cedar Rapids; three sisters-in-law, Irene Fischer of Dubuque, Verna Mae Hoefer of Manchester and Karen Hoefer of Swisher.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene in 2017; an infant daughter, Alma Elizabeth; three brothers, Eddie, Merle, and Donnie Fischer; three brothers-in-law, Gerald, Lyle, and Art Hoefer; and three sisters-in-law, Beverly Hoefer, Linda Hoefer, and Janice Fischer.
Because of COVID-19, masks are strongly recommended at the funeral home and required at the church.
