Dale Donavan Potter

Dale Donavan Potter, 73, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 31, 1949, in Oelwein, the son of Daryl and Mary (Spear) Potter. Dale was raised and educated in the Strawberry Point area and was a 1968 graduate of Starmont High School.  Dale then served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1972.

On September 23, 1972, Dale was united in marriage to Diane DeShaw at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. Six daughters were born to this union. Dale farmed for many years and also installed insulation for 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He also liked playing cards and watching old western movies. Dale enjoyed searching for and eating morels. Above all else, Dale loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Diane Potter of Strawberry Point; three daughters, Stacie (Terry) Groth and Kristina (Cory) Gonzales all of Strawberry Point, and Brittany (Andy) Squires of Center Point; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, with one on the way; three sisters, Diana (Jim) McGraw of Manchester, Connie (Larry) DeShaw of Edgewood, and Wendie (Doug) Dettbarn of Strawberry Point; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Jaclyn Potter, Linda Rausch, and Jennifer Colbert; granddaughter, Makenzie Groth; and his sister, Linda Kay Potter.
