Daryl Leroy Cole, 70, of Elgin, Illinois and formerly of Manchester, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Daryl was born August 20, 1950 in Iowa City, Iowa to Harvey and Vera (Nelson) Cole. Daryl was a factory worker, working first at EIP Manufacturing in Earlville, then later at Henderson Products in Manchester until he retired. He moved to Illinois in 2016 for health reason.
In 1970, Daryl married Patricia Gray, and they had a beautiful daughter they named Shiela. Sadly, in 1972, Patricia and Shiela died in a car accident. In 1975, Daryl married Diane Carpenter, and they had four children, Amy, Daryl, Ann, and Jamie. While they later divorced in 1984, they continued to work together to raise their children. In 1989 Daryl married Christine Eschen, and together they raised her boys, Chad and Cory. In 2004, they adopted Lacey and Hunter. They later divorced in 2007.
Daryl had a unique, loving personality. Friends and family will remember him as a man who enjoyed making people laugh. He also liked people watching and good food, but his favorite pastime was hunting and fishing. He especially loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish. When Daryl hunted, he would always try to beat the other hunters to the timber. When asked where he got his latest deer, it was always “in the timber.”
Daryl is survived by his six children, Amy (Fred) Stone of Manchester, Daryl (Amber) Cole of Stanley, Ann (Antonio) Gonzalez of Elgin Illinois, Jamie Cole, Lacey Cole and Hunter Cole all of Manchester; two step-sons, Chad Eschen of Manchester and Cory Eschen of Alburnett; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Delpha (Jamie) Ostrandr of Manchester; and one brother, Allen “Porkchop” (Fiorella) Cole of Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his first wife, Patricia Gray; his second wife, Diane Carpenter; his daughter, Shiela Cole; his granddaughter, Harlee Stone; a sister, Arlyn Cole; and a nephew, Lee Prindle.
Because of COVID-19, masks are strongly recommended at the funeral home.
