David John Putz, 83, of Greeley, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was born on October 26, 1937, in Petersburg, the son of Anton “Tony” and Marcella (Kruse) Putz. After a brief service in the Army, Dave married Dolores Hellmann on September 9, 1959, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross. Together they enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage. They bought their farm 3 miles west of Greeley where he lived the rest of his life.
Dave was involved in 4H both as a club leader and lifetime supporter. He was also a delegate for Associated Milk Producers, Inc., and a member of the Greeley Tug-of-War Club in its early years. Dave was a lifetime member and on the parish board of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greeley, and later St Mark’s Catholic Church in Edgewood. Outside of life on the farm, Dave also enjoyed spending time with neighbors and always had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Dolores Putz of Greeley; five children, Dennis (Marge) Putz and Darryl (Shea) Putz, both of Manchester, Duane (Amy) Putz of Omaha, Nebraska, Deb (Mark) Werning of Bettendorf, and Don (Bellana) Putz of Otley; 18 grandchildren, Dereck (Cassie) Putz, Mikha (Glen) Mormann, Morgan (Ryan) Neuhaus, Devin (Samantha) Putz, Danielle (Michael) Jenkins, Jordan (Stevan) Pounders, Dallyn Putz, Jade Putz, Jennifer (Jake) Harrison, Andrew (Makayla) Putz, Schafer Putz, Garret Putz, Peter Werning, Kenzie Werning, Kyle Werning, TR Putz, Dax Putz, and Colby Putz; 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; one sister, Verna Mae (Donald) Lueck of Dyersville; three sisters-in-law, Agnes Putz of Dyersville, Grace Putz of Manchester, and Judy Putz of East Dubuque, Illinois; and many other relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Pearl (Alvin) Gaul and Alice Putz (5 years old); four brothers, Walter Putz, Fred “Fritz” Putz, Harold Putz, and Jerry Putz; and granddaughter, Rebecca Putz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Regional Medical Center Home Care or St. Mark Catholic Church.
