Dean Krieg Obituary

Dean Alvin Krieg, 85, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. He was born on November 8, 1934, in rural Elkport, the son of Orlando and Clara (Williams) Krieg. Dean was educated in the Elkport area attending country school.

On May 9, 1953, Dean was united in marriage to Dolores Binning at St. John’s Congregational Church in Garber. Three children were born to this union. The couple farmed together in the Wood Center area for 50 years. Dean continued to farm until the last few years, but remained living on the farm until he entered the Edgewood Convalescent Home on March 18, 2020.

Dean loved his antique tractors and was a member of the NEIAA and worked many years at the Plagman Barn Show Days. He also helped with the building of the Elkport-Garber Community Center of which he was a great supporter.

Survivors include his three children, Donna (Gary) Jones, Debra (Greg) Schulte, and Dale (Lisa) Krieg, all of Edgewood; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; special friend, Linda Hauschild; his sister, Diane (David) Hansel; one sister-in-law, Ruth Kelley; and many nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Dolores Krieg in 2003; one brother, Eugene Krieg; and three sisters, Mary Krieg, Anita Finnegan, and Fern Scheffert.

A special thank you to all the staff at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for their love and care.
