Dean Leroy Tucker, 87, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 18, 1937, on the family farm near Edgewood, the son of Ralph and Mary (Reimer) Tucker. Dean was raised and educated in Edgewood. After his schooling, he continued farming for himself and farmed and did construction work with his dad.
On April 30, 1960, Dean was united in marriage to Grace Maiers at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. To this union four beautiful children were born, Christine, Duane, Carol, and Kerry. Together they farmed the family farm for over 40 years. Later they operated “Tuckers Flowers” for ten years and then ran the Charles City and Oelwein Super 8 Motels for ten years before retiring.
Dean was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. He took a lot of pride in building his cabin, “Dean’s Dream”. Dean enjoyed fishing, camping, and woodworking. Together Dean and Grace traveled throughout Iowa and Illinois, attending craft shows and selling their handmade furniture. He enjoyed creating wood projects for others. Dean took great pride in raising his flowers each year. Dean and Grace loved dancing and taking car rides together. He loved his dog, Missy. Above all else, Dean loved his family and spending time with them and his friends.
Survivors include his children, Christine (Eugene) Kauffman of Strawberry Point, Duane (Karla) Tucker of Yankton, South Dakota, Carol (Ric) Huber of Atkins, and Kerry (Kelley) Tucker of Manchester; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Wilfred (Maxine) Maiers of Des Moines, Rita Maiers of Independence, Marie Pasker of Guttenberg, and Diane (Tom) Scherbring of Colesburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace Tucker in 2022; two brothers, Dennis (Vivian) Tucker and Ervin (Jeannine) Tucker; and sister, Loretta (Bob) Kartman.
