Dolores Irene Putz, 87, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was born on March 5, 1936, in Holy Cross, the daughter of Anthony and Ottillia (Loecke) Hellmann. Dolores married David Putz on September 9, 1959, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross. Together they bought their family farm three miles west of Greeley, where they raised their five children. David and Dolores enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage, until Dave’s passing on August 6, 2021.
Dolores enjoyed family life on their farm and always had a large garden that she would take care of. Dolores was a fantastic cook, and her pecan pie and fudge will be especially missed by everyone. Her faith and family were cornerstones of her life. Dolores was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley, and later St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. Outside of life on the farm, Dolores worked as a CNA at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for 20 years and was a member of the Greeley Tug-of-War club in its early years. Dolores especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Dolores had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and with her extensive memory, she never missed a birthday!
