Dolores Putz Obituary

Dolores Irene Putz, 87, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  She was born on March 5, 1936, in Holy Cross, the daughter of Anthony and Ottillia (Loecke) Hellmann.  Dolores married David Putz on September 9, 1959, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross. Together they bought their family farm three miles west of Greeley, where they raised their five children. David and Dolores enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage, until Dave’s passing on August 6, 2021.

Dolores enjoyed family life on their farm and always had a large garden that she would take care of. Dolores was a fantastic cook, and her pecan pie and fudge will be especially missed by everyone. Her faith and family were cornerstones of her life. Dolores was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley, and later St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. Outside of life on the farm, Dolores worked as a CNA at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for 20 years and was a member of the Greeley Tug-of-War club in its early years. Dolores especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Dolores had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and with her extensive memory, she never missed a birthday!

Survivors include her five children, Dennis (Marge) Putz and Darryl (Shea) Putz both of Manchester, Duane (Amy) Putz of Omaha, Nebraska, Deb (Mark) Werning of Bettendorf, and Don (Bellana) Putz of Otley; 18 grandchildren, Dereck (Cassie) Putz, Mikha (Glen) Mormann, Morgan (Ryan) Neuhaus, Devin (Samantha) Putz, Danielle (Michael) Jenkins, Jordan (Stevan) Pounders, Dallyn Putz, Jade (fiancé, Riesse Maurer) Putz, Jennifer (Jake) Harrison, Andrew (Makayla) Putz, Schafer Putz, Garret Putz, Peter Werning, Kenzie Werning, Kyle Werning, TR Putz, Dax Putz, and Colby Putz; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cletus (Correne) Hellmann of Ryan and Charles (Mary) Hellmann of Holy Cross; two sisters, Bernice Thole and Eileen (Ed) Prier all of Dyersville; sisters-in-law, Eileen Hellmann of Ryan, and Verna Mae (Donald) Lueck of Dyersville; and many other relatives.

Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Putz; her parents; sister, Germaine Langel; brother, Ambrose Hellmann; three brothers-in-law, John Langel, Charles Thole, and Ralph Recker; and granddaughter, Rebecca Putz.
