Donald Mellody Obituary

Donald Edwin Mellody, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Don was born on February 20, 1933, in Manchester, the son of Edwin and Marie (Meyer) Mellody. Don was raised and educated in Manchester and was a 1951 graduate of Manchester High School.

On June 1, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Carolyn Phelps at the Colesburg United Methodist Church in Colesburg. Four daughters were born to this union.  Don worked as a meat cutter for many years. He had a passion for cars and at one time owned 7 Corvettes. Don loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Mellody of Manchester; four daughters, Elizabeth Cassman of Manchester, Dixie (Terry) Bradley of Manchester, Sarah (Benjamin) Bellings of Asbury, and Jennifer (Jerry) Quint of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah (Shannon) Cassman, Heidi (Brian) Lyons, Lindsay (Joe) Bertram, Eric (Hilary) Bradley, Taylor (Jered Cortez) Bellings, Jessica (Lucas) Thomas, and Marissa Quint; six great-grandchildren; four siblings, Carol (Ronnie) Carlson, Mike (Judy) Mellody, Harold Mellody, and Jerry (Sharon) Mellody; two brothers-in-law, L.J. Schemmel and Fred (Ellen) Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Norma Schemmel, Eunice Powers, Claire Mellody, Bobby Mellody, and Denny Mellody.
