Donald Raymond Salow, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on January 19, 1929, in Manchester, the son of Raymond and Nellie (Hunt) Salow. Don attended Earlville High School.
On April 19, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Irene Pasker at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. Five children were born to this union. Together they farmed near Manchester and Edgewood for many years. Don and Irene moved from the farm into town in 1971. He then started working at John Deere in Dubuque in May of 1972 until his retirement in 1992.
Don was a long-time member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, dancing and gardening. Don most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Irene Salow of Manchester; four children, Dennis (Vicky) Salow of Colesburg, Janet (Jim) Diers of Colesburg, Deb (Terry) Koelker of Manchester, Linda (Dale) Hermsen of Dyersville; a daughter-in-law, Teri Salow of Manchester; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence “Hap” (Phyllis) Salow of Earlville, David (Rosie) Salow of Manchester, Richard (Pat) Salow of Manchester; and sisters-in-law, Betty Salow of Manchester and Mona Salow of Earlville.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ronald Salow in 2020; a granddaughter, Tiffany Salow; his sister, Marion Young; and brothers, Bill (Audrey) Salow, Walt (Amber) Salow, Clyde Salow, Raymond Salow Jr., Harold Salow, Loren (Irene) Salow, and Gary Salow.
Due to COVID-19 concerns and the governor’s proclamation, masks are required at the church.
