Donald "Donnie" Dean Edmonds

Donald Dean “Donnie” Edmonds, 73, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on March 31, 1950, in Oelwein, the son of Howard “Sac” and Lucille (Kensel) Edmonds. Donnie received his education from the Strawberry Point schools. After his schooling, Donnie worked for area farmers and Knight’s Lumberyard.

On January 5, 1985, Donnie was united in marriage to Mary Burgin at Calvary Bible Church in Volga. The couple made their home in rural Strawberry Point. Donnie continued to work for area farmers and also the Strawberry Point Cemetery. He dug countless graves by hand. Donnie also worked for Iowa Ham.

Donnie attended the Stanley Union Church. He enjoyed mushroom and ginseng hunting. He also liked fishing and deer hunting. Donnie loved to visit with people and was a very good storyteller.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Edmonds; three children, Naomi Bentley of Strawberry Point; Lydia (Ben) Doty of Runnells, and Fred Edmonds of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Vincent Bryant, Brandon Doty, Elijah Doty, and Jacob Doty; four siblings, Lonnie (Toni) Edmonds of Oelwein, Bonnie (Eric) Scheuerman of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Mary Winistorfer of Gulf Port, Florida, and Connie Sheckles of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald (Avis) Edmonds.
