Doris Helene (Knickerbocker) Nieman

Doris Helene Nieman, 97, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on February 1, 1923, at home on the farm near Edgewood, the daughter of Floyd and Verna (Heyer) Knickerbocker. Doris was raised near Edgewood and was a graduate of Edgewood High School.  She then attended and graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College. Doris moved to Chicago during the war to work at a bank for one year.

On March 7, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Robert Nieman at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester. Two children were born to this union.  Doris worked at a bank in Manchester for several years. Later she became the church secretary at First Lutheran Church. When the Good Neighbor Home opened, Doris became the Business Director until her retirement in 1985.

Doris was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards in the Catorsy Bridge Club. Most of all, family was her first love and priority.

Survivors include her two children, Bruce (Jeanette) Nieman and Carla Nieman all of Manchester; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie (Gerald) Perrinjaquet of Edgewood; one brother, Buryle (Mary) Knickerbocker of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; two sisters, Donna Nieman and Wilma Raders; two brothers, Bruce and Alfred Henry Knickerbocker; and one niece, Lorene Simmons.
