Dorothy Marie Lake, 95, of Manchester (formerly of Colesburg), passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at The Meadows in Manchester, Iowa. She was born on April 21, 1926, in Petersburg, the daughter of Hubert and Rosalia (Kramer) Geistkemper. Dorothy attended school at Saints Peter and Paul School in Petersburg.
On June 15, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Lake at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Five children were born to this union. The couple farmed south of Colesburg until moving to town in 1974. Dorothy also worked as a cook at the Colesburg School. Harold and Dorothy moved to Manchester in 2011.
Dorothy was a long-time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. After moving to Manchester, she attended St. Mary Catholic Church. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and gardening. Above all else, Dorothy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Diane (Paul) Bohlken of Marion, Gary (Linda) Lake of Epworth, Doris (Dave) Sherman of Manchester, Marsha (Pat) Mescher of Dundee, and Roger Lake of Manchester; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Ament of Jesup; one brother, Daniel (Sandra) Geistkemper of Dyersville; a sister-in-law, Verna Geistkemper of Savanna, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Delores Deutmeyer; her husband, Harold in 2017; one granddaughter, Roxanne Troester; one great-great-grandson, Payton Coe; siblings and in-laws, Elmer (Evelyn) Geistkemper, Herman (Annetta) Geistkemper, Ethel (Jerome) Pins, Eleanor (John) Hoeger, Raymond (Mildred) Geistkemper, Marie Geistkemper, Alfred Geistkemper, Margaret Geistkemper, Tom Ament, and Purl (Gladys) Lake; and several siblings in infancy.
