Dorothy "Dot" Marie (Jones) Linderwell

Dorothy Marie “Dot” Linderwell, 92, of Lamont, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on June 3, 1929, in Wadena, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mable (Kelly) Jones. She was raised on a farm near Lima and attended school in Fayette. Dot’s family moved to Lamont and she then graduated from Lamont High School in 1946.

On September 7, 1947, Dot was united in marriage to Raymond “Shorty” Linderwell at the Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. The couple farmed together near Lamont until their retirement in 1983 and they moved to town at that time.

Dot worked in the grocery store in Lamont before her marriage. After her marriage besides working on the farm, she worked at Wilson’s Packing Plant in Cedar Rapids. For many years, Dot bartended at several bars in Lamont. Over the years, Dot took care of her nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Dot was a wonderful baker. She baked cakes and decorated them for family members. Dot made amazing rolls, cupcakes, and cookies.  She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed jokes and pranks. Dot enjoyed writing poems and letters and playing cards.

Survivors include two special nieces, Sarah (Tom) Shadle of Ely and Elaine (Mike) Crosby of Newport News, Virginia; a great-niece, Courtney Shadle; a great-nephew, T.J. Shadle; two brothers-in-law, Fritz Houska of Strawberry Point and Art Eschen of Edgewood; a step-brother, Larry (Delores) Fowler of California; a step-sister, Dawn (Arnold) Thomas of Oklahoma; and numerous other family members.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond “Shorty” Linderwell; two sisters, Bonita Eschen and Charlotte Houska; and one brother, Robert Jones.
