Douglas Behrens

Douglas Behrens, 91, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on September 30, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. He was born on March 4, 1929, in Strawberry Point, the son of Ralph and Marie (Little) Behrens.  Doug was raised in the Strawberry Point area and was a 1947 graduate of Strawberry Point High School.

On August 26, 1951, Doug was united in marriage to Virginia Clauson at the First Congregational Church in Edgewood. Two sons were born to this union. Doug farmed and worked as an agent for Farmers Mutual Insurance of Garnivillo. He served as an agent/director from 1971 to 2016 and was the president from 1998 until 2016.

Doug was active with the Starmont High School FFA. He also was a longtime member at the Edgewood Bible Church. Doug loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia Behrens of Strawberry Point; his two sons, Gregg Behrens of Auckland, New Zealand and Curt (Liz) Behrens of Fontana, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, David (Sharon) Behrens, Carrie (Sean) Brna, Karl Behrens, Kristina (Aleks Davidovich) Behrens, and Adam Behrens; and three great-grandchildren.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Terry Behrens in 1936.
