Duane Gordon Tiemens, 82, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, December 13, 2021, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on October 4, 1939, in Butler County, Iowa, the son of Albert and Genevieve (Hinders) Tiemens. Duane graduated from Greene High School in 1957. He served in the Iowa National Guard for three months and in the reserves for six years. Duane then worked in construction for a short while before deciding ditch digging was not for him. He then attended and graduated from Hamilton College in Mason City. Duane then started his 40+ years as an accountant and earned his CPA Degree.
Duane and his wife, Michele Doran, were married June 15, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama, Iowa. In 1963, Duane and Michele moved to Manchester and started a family of three sons. In 1973, they moved to a small acreage. The family kept very busy with this lifestyle complete with horses, cattle, et cetera. Duane was very active volunteering in many community projects as well. Mostly he enjoyed his family, grandkids, and living in the country where many memories were made.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Michele Tiemens; his three sons, Timothy (Jennifer) Tiemens of Plymouth, Minnesota, Greg Tiemens of Manchester, and Kevin (friend Julie ) Tiemens of Johnston; his grandsons, Tyler Tiemens of Center Point, Connor Hendricks and Alex Tiemens of Urbandale, Nicholas Tiemens (friend Kirah), Benjamin Tiemens, Daniel Tiemens, all of Plymouth, Minnesota and Jake Anderson of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Yvonne (LaVern) Schurman, of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law, Doug (Melinda) Anderson, of Orlando, Florida; a sister-in-law, Anita Allen of Ogden, Kansas; a brother-in-law, John (Sue) Doran of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, in 1966; his parents; grandparents; his in-laws, John and Thelma Doran; a sister, Donna Dralle and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Because of COVID-19, masks are strongly recommended at the funeral home and at the church.
