Duane “Pinky” Clayton Haight, 79, of Manchester, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on July 4, 1942, at Manchester, the son of F. Clayton and Edith (Smith) Haight. Duane was raised in the Manchester area and graduated from Manchester High School in 1960.
On September 30, 1961, Duane was married to Shirley Miller at Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville. Four sons were born to this union. Early on in life Duane farmed with his father. Duane was a Manchester police officer for four years. He also worked as a machinist at FMC in Cedar Rapids and as a truck driver at Hutchison Lumber for many years.
Duane was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything to do with outdoors. Duane enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Shirley Haight of Manchester; his four sons, Mark (Lori) Haight of Manchester, Matt Haight of Columbia, Missouri, James (Celine) Haight and Jason (Stacey) Haight both of Manchester; five grandchildren, Rachel and Clayton Haight, Parker and Spencer Haight, and Kyle Haight; and one sister-in-law, Angela Haight of North Liberty.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; and his two brothers, John in infancy, and Ronald “Red” Haight. His daughter-in-law, Jennifer Haight, passed away three days after his death.
