Evelyn Peter Obituary

Evelyn “Eve” Marie Peter, 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at her home in Marion with her husband by her side.  She was born on June 30, 1939, in New Hampton, the daughter of Norbert and Nellie (Eisheid) Denner. She graduated from New Hampton High School. 

Evelyn was married to Larry Peter for 45 years and they raised their children together on Lake Delhi for 25 years until moving to Marion in retirement. She worked for the US Senate, Social Security Office, and New Hartford School. She was a master gardener and a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved sewing and cooking and enjoyed supporting the Waterloo Waterhawks Ski Club. 

Survivors include her husband, Larry Peter; her children John (Jona) McEnany, Laura (Tim) Messenbrink; Jim McEnany, Joe (Corrina) McEnany, Mary (Randy) Frank, William (Evelyn) McEnany, Garth (Angi) Peter, Kristen Peter-Olive, and Todd (Ingra) Peter; and her 11 grandchildren, Jien Lan McEnany, David (Jen) Messenbrink, Alexis Dinicio, Vincent McEnany, Maximillian McEnany, Marissa (Carson) Barron, Cash (Carson Mae) Peter, Maggie (Nate) Tauke, Tate Peter, Dawson Peter, Destin Peter, Alexis Peter, Derek Olive, Robbie Natek, and Mary Crandall;  and seven great-grandchildren, Ariella, Liam and Elias Messenbrink, Paul Benjamin, Baylor Tauke, Kleos Brown, Arlo Brown, and two more on the way. 

Eve was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Melvin (Anna) Denner.
