Francis Arthur “Frank” McCusker, 95, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on June 26, 1929, in Ryan, the son of Arthur and Alice (Callan) McCusker. Frank was raised and educated in Ryan. After his schooling, Frank worked on the family farm with his mother, milking cows and selling milk.
On October 25, 1949, Frank was united in marriage to Margaret “Jean” Swanson at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. After their marriage, the couple traveled to California for their honeymoon and decided to stay. Five children were born to this union. They made their home in California until the late 1960s. While living there, Frank worked for an airplane manufacturer. He also co-owned a gas station. The family eventually returned to Iowa where Frank worked as a mechanic and ultimately had a lawn mowing and snow removal business for many years.
Frank was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing, bowling, watching sports, and mowing lawns. Frank and Jean loved traveling by car, driving and seeing the sights. He coached Little League Baseball and adult softball for many years. Frank enjoyed quilting with Jean and did all the maintenance on her sewing machines. Frank was blessed with a large family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include his five children, Steve (Jean) McCusker of Coggon, John (Tammy) McCusker of Manchester, Teresa (Greg) Greve of Masonville, Ken (Dee) McCusker of Maquoketa, and Rose (Leo) Pins of Bankston; 17 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pat Swanson of Manchester and Lois Morris of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Clifford Swanson of Manchester, and George McCusker (best friend and cousin) of Overland Park, Kansas.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Jean McCusker in 2022; his brother, Ambrose (Ruth) McCusker; in-laws, Robert “Bob” (Crystal) Swanson, Kenneth Swanson, Betty Morgan, Ruth Swanson, Harry “Duke” (Velma) Swanson, and Richard Morris.
