G. Colin Dorman Obituary

Colin Dorman, 83, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born on July 23, 1940, in Manchester, the son of Donald and Vera (Reynolds) Dorman.  He was raised most of his life in Manchester except for a short stint in Del Rio, Texas during World War II. Colin was educated in Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School in 1958. Colin worked for his dad after high school at the Manchester Phillips 66 Station. He then worked at Goss Printing Press Company in Cedar Rapids and Peoples Natural Gas in Manchester and Anamosa for several decades as a serviceman and manager.

In 1961, Colin was united in marriage to Janis Dyer. Two children were born to this union.  The couple were later divorced. Colin was then united in marriage to Sue (Rexroat) Hopfensperger, his longtime companion of 21 years, on February 11, 2024, gaining three bonus children.

Colin enjoyed riding his motorcycles, especially his Harley. In his retirement he worked many years at the National Motorcycle Museum and Tucker’s Bar and Grill, both in Anamosa. His day was always brightened when he saw his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Sue Dorman of Anamosa ;  his children, Steven (Melissa) Dorman of Denton, Texas and Christopher Dorman of Isabella, Minnesota; three bonus children, Molli Hopfensperger of Anamosa, Jake Hopfensperger of Big Sky, Montana, and Katie (Brandon) Hopfensperger of Lisbon; five grandchildren, Katrina Mason, Erika (Josh)Jobson, Patrick (Candace) Dorman, Derek (Kialy) Giesking, and Ryan (partner Eliza) Dorman;  and four bonus grandchildren, Pheonix Volkenant, Blakely Boge, Coralee Hurla, and  Margot Hopfensperger; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Maureen Wilson of Urbandale; his close friend, Gail Johnston of Monticello.

Colin was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Vera Dorman.

The family would like to thank Above and Beyond Hospice for their wonderful care and support, especially his care givers, "The M Team", McKenna, Maddie, Margaret, and Mackenzie.
