Gary Leonard Klosterman, 81, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on March 24, 1943, on the family farm near Edgewood, the son of George and Luetta (Schmitt) Klosterman. Gary was raised and educated in the Edgewood area and was a 1961 graduate of Edgewood High School. Gary took over the family farm after his dad died when he was 17. He also worked for area farmers who needed help.
On May 7, 1966, Gary was united in marriage to Ruth Elledge in Manchester. Three children were blessed to this union. Gary and Ruth moved into Edgewood in 2022.
Gary was a faithful member of the Edgewood Bible Church and held many positions. He especially enjoyed being an Awana Leader. Gary’s greatest love was serving the Lord and others. He enjoyed riding horses and doing woodworking projects. Gary loved his family and cherished spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Klosterman of Edgewood; three children, Richard (Sandy) Klosterman of West Union, Karen (Scott) Sickels of Strawberry Point, and Carol (Chris) Thomas-Schlee of Strawberry Point; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Mike) Bergan of Elkader; brother-in-law, Dale Sargent of Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews; and other family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janice (Jim)Lammers and Eileen Sargent; brother, Lawrence “Lary” Klosterman; and son-in-law, Steve Thomas.
