Gary Alan Weber, 53, formally from Independence and Waterloo, received his wings to the gates of heaven on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Bethany Life in Story City. He was born on December 26, 1970, and was a Downs Syndrome son born to loving parents, Jim and Kate (Demuth) Weber. Gary graduated from River Hills School in Cedar Falls. He participated in the Special Olympics during those school years and after graduating. Bowling and swimming were where he earned many ribbons and medals.
He was involved for many years with EPI (Exceptional Persons of Iowa) and North Star Service where he joyfully participated in the plays: Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Shrek, Wizard of Oz and many others through the years. Gary had a whole tablet of “loves” in his life and one that stands out above all others would be roller coasters with his beloved sister Cindy. Others would include going to the zoo, swimming, bowling, and dancing. His UNO cards, collection of clowns and going on vacation were always a favorite especially when he got to go to a concert to see KISS.
Gary had a special love for horses, and we are certain that he will forever be telling friends old and new in heaven about his trip to Warm Spring Ranch in Boonville, Missouri with John, Cindy, and Brailyn who was lovingly known to Gary from the day she was born, as BABY. Gary and Brailyn were like brother and sister; their love will remain forever there for both of them. They got to pet the huge Budweiser horses and even got to brush the baby Clydesdales. A special vacation and bonding time for Gary and sister, Julie was when they flew to Jamaica for John and Cindy’s wedding. A good time and many memories were made on this trip.
Gary was a very special guy with a heart of gold. He did not know a stranger and was always the first one with his hand out for a handshake or open arms for a warm hug and kiss.
Bethany Life, in Story City, welcomed Gary with open arms. Thanks to Heather for making, it all come together. All the staff loved him. He was not afraid to keep them on their toes. The talk always was “If you need a hug for the day, find Gary.”
Gary liked to eat (like the rest of us) and his number one first choice would always be OP (Other Place) for pizza, and pop (no ice). His second choice would be cheesecake and he would never turn down a cookie, EVER! Gary had years of tender loving care and had a good life that he received from his sister Cindy who would have moved mountains for him if she could. She was his everything and he was hers as well.
Left to cherish Gary’s memory are his three sisters, Julie (Ron) Dlouhy of Newton, Lori (John) Mast of Independence, and Cindy (John) Kelchen of Manchester; brother, Jeff (Lisa) Weber of Rock Island, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Kate Weber his brothers, Michael, Steve and Randy.
Gary would want everyone to remember one thing: “It’ll be alright”
