Germaine Josephine (Roling) Vorwald

Germaine Josephine Vorwald, 98, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. She was born on July 6, 1925, in New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of Gregor and Frances (Eikens) Roling. Germaine was raised and educated in the Colesburg area and attended country school.

On June 10, 1947, Germaine was united in marriage to Robert Vorwald at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. Together they farmed near Colesburg until 1950 when they moved to the Edgewood area to farm.

Germaine was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She enjoyed being a farm wife. Germaine loved babysitting her grandchildren and her family often came before her own needs. She enjoyed baking and was known for baking for her grandchildren on each of their birthdays. Germaine was also known for her beautiful cross-stitching. She loved playing cards and played with various card clubs, her family, and the Jolly Jokers. Germaine loved her family and took pride in taking care of them and always enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her three children, Patricia (Lyle) Chittick of Tualatin, Oregon, Jeff “Burly”  Vorwald of Edgewood, and Scott (Vicki) Vorwald of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Jean Vorwald of Manchester; six grandchildren, Christel (Chad) Manson, Christopher (Ashley) Vorwald, Ashley (Gautam) Dhar, Brittany (Josh) Lansing, Kayla (Brandon) Pethke, and Brooke Vorwald; and six great-grandchildren, Connor Manson, Addalyn and Avery Vorwald, Matthew and Maya Dhar, Lanie Lansing, with a Pethke granddaughter on the way.

Germaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Vorwald; son, Mike Vorwald; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Jean Roling; and Fritz Clemen, Craig Clemen, and Brian Roling.
