Janice Grundmeyer Obituary

Janice Mary “Jan” Grundmeyer, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away surrounded by family, on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. She was born on October 14, 1939, in Dubuque, the daughter of Cleon and Katherine (Klaus) Puff. Jan was raised in Earlville and then attended school in Dubuque. She finished her education at Dundee High School graduating with class of 1957. Jan then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After receiving her teaching certificate, she began teaching in Manchester in 1960.

On November 23, 1961, Jan was united in marriage to James “Jim” Grundmeyer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Three children were born to this union. They lived in Manchester until moving to their family farm near Masonville in 1978. Throughout this time, Jan was a devoted, caring elementary school teacher for 33 years, with the majority of these years with the West Delaware School District. She retired from teaching in 1997. The couple moved to Manchester in 2016.

Jan was a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a founding member of the Manchester Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was a State Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for the State of Iowa. After her retirement, Jan volunteered innumerable hours at Lambert Elementary School, and also at the Camp Courageous Garage Sale in Manchester. She was a wonderful cook, who especially enjoyed baking. Jan also enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeye Women’s Basketball team and Caitlin Clark. Above all else, Jan loved her family, cherished spending time with them, and doted on her seven grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jim Grundmeyer of Manchester; her three children, Julie (Tom) Seedorff of Manchester, JoAnn (Wade) Kaminski of Dixon, Illinois, and Jeff (Amy) Grundmeyer of Walker; seven grandchildren, Michael (Aaron) Seedorff, Nick (Kirstin) Seedorff, Jacob (fiancé, Devin) Seedorff, Lauren Kaminski, Parker Kaminski, Jessica (Caleb) Fuessley, and Jonathan (Olivia Midcalf) Grundmeyer; sister-in-law, Rita Thole of Oelwein; and several nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David (Mary Ann) Puff; and a grandson, Benjamin Seedorff.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Camp Courageous.
