Jean Ann Gilbert, 84, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on October 16, 1935, in Volga, the daughter of Lawrence and Myra (Wells) Hulverson. Jean graduated from High School in Volga.
On November 20, 1954, Jean was united in marriage to Reginald “Bud” Gilbert in Volga. They were blessed with three sons. Jean and Bud in their early years of marriage traveled to Japan and New Mexico as Bud was in the military. They then settled back in Iowa and lived in Manchester and Edgewood. Jean worked as a nursing aide at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester and the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Jean was a very hard worker and loved what she did. She like to sit together with family and friends and play cards from time to time. Jean enjoyed the outdoors and watching the birds. She also loved dogs and grew very fond of them throughout the years. Playing the bass guitar was also a favorite pastime. Jean was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood.
Survivors include her three sons, Curt (Kelly) Gilbert of Dubuque, Douglas (Audrey) Gilbert of Phoenix, Arizona, and Calvin (Kim) Gilbert of Cedar Rapids; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reginald “Bud” Gilbert on March 14, 2020; and her four sisters, Lorraine Galbreath , Jewell Chappel, Gayle Biedermann and Evelyn Biedermann.
