Jeanne Theresa Rolfes, 80, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Earlville, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Jeanne was born on April 4, 1939, in rural Colesburg, the daughter of Lawrence and Aurelia (Schaefer) Roling. She was raised in the Colesburg area and graduated from Colesburg High School in1957. Jeanne worked for the Colesburg Phone Company after her graduation.
On February 16, 1960, Jeanne was united in marriage to Dennis Rolfes at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. Eight children were born to this union. The couple farmed together on the family farm north of Earlville where they raised Brown Swiss Cattle.
Jeanne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greeley for many years and now of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. She enjoyed crocheting Christmas ornaments, doilies, and afghans. Jeanne and Dennis always tended a large garden on the farm. The couple also enjoyed going to dances in the area. Jeanne had flowers growing throughout her yard. She loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Dennis Rolfes of Manchester; her eight children, Dave (Jody) Rolfes of Earlville, Barb (Clyde) Ries of Delaware, Mike (Mary Kay) Rolfes of Manchester, Julie (Loras) Kruse of Holy Cross, Jim (Tina) Rolfes of Dyersville, Mark (Christine) Rolfes of New Vienna, Denise (Scott) Tjelmeland of Brandon, and Linda (Dale) Thole of Dyersville; 35 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, with 3 on the way; three siblings, Elaine Wulfekuhle of Edgewood, Leo (Dorothy) Roling of Colesburg, and Alan (Jean) Roling of Dyersville; one sister-in-law, Eileen Fortman of Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Roling; a brother-in-law, Lester Wulfekuhle; her parents-in-law, John and Veronica Rolfes; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Rolfes; and a brother-in-law, Emil Fortman.
