Jeffrey Allan “Sarge” Sargent, 67, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at his home. He was born on July 9, 1954, in Manchester, the son of James and Dorothy (Wurch) Sargent. Jeff was raised and educated in Strawberry Point and was a 1972 graduate of Starmont High School.
On September 25, 2004, Jeff was united in marriage to Tammy (Pyle) Opitz in Cedar Rapids. After graduation, Jeff worked for many years for Wilsons in Cedar Rapids. He then worked at Sadler Power Train for 23 years as the shop foreman and retired in 2018. Jeff lived in Cedar Rapids for many years and then moved onto the family farm in rural Strawberry Point in 2018.
Jeff loved camping and riding their side by side. He loved John Deere tractors and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He attended many of their games over the years. Living and working on his family farm during the last three years of his life were his happiest. Most important to Jeff was his family. He loved them and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Tammy Sargent of Strawberry Point; his two children, John (Rashelle) Opitz of Ely and MaryAnn (Andy) Popham of Strawberry Point; his parents, James and Dorothy Sargent of Fairfax; seven grandchildren, Ethan Opitz, Jake Opitz, Addison Popham, Brittney Opitz, Wyatt Opitz, Carter Popham, and Lexi Popham; one brother, Jon Sargent of Cedar Rapids; an uncle, John (Vivian) Wurch of Webster City; one sister-in-law, Laura (Rory) Stonebraker of Marion; a brother-in-law, Dennis (Debbie) Pyle of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jeff was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his father-in-law.
