JoAnn Marie Harris, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester. She was born on June 27, 1939, in Manchester, the daughter of Rudolph and Thresa (Sands) Helmrich. JoAnn was raised and educated in Manchester and was a graduate of Manchester High School. She then attended Paris Academy of Beauty.
In 1959 JoAnn married Glenn Harris. Four children were born to this union. The couple later divorced. JoAnn was a hairdresser during her entire lifetime. She owned and operated her own hair salon for 63 years.
JoAnn was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed staying busy and being around people. JoAnn enjoyed attending children’s and grandchildren’s events. She also enjoyed welcoming everyone into her home. JoAnn was a very honest woman except when playing cards with her family.
Survivors include her children, Debra (Jeff) Rausch of Bankston, Tom (Diane) Harris of Fort Worth, Texas, Becky (Joe) Kafer of Manchester, and Jeff (Michele) Harris of Masonville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dorothy (Dean) Manson, Doris (Dale) Pettlon, and Hazel Coleman; and two brothers, Merle “Casey” (Dorothy “Dottie”) Helmrich and Robert (Norma) Helmrich; and special friend, Don Moorman.
