John Franklin Stefflar

John Franklin Stefflar, 81, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. He was born on August 11, 1941, in Stewartville, Minnesota, the son of Ray and Ruth (Hart) Stefflar. John was a graduate of Canton High School in Canton, Minnesota, and then attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

On December 19, 1959, John was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Hegseth. Four children were born to this union. John worked for printing companies and as a carpenter during his early life. For many years John worked as a beekeeper.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Gwendolyn Stefflar of Edgewood; four children, Daniel Stefflar of Edgewood, Brenda (Robert) Hutchinson of Garber, Sandra (partner, Louis Knospe) Stefflar of Colesburg, and Debora (Rick) Sandhagen of Independence; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; in-laws, David (Louise) Hegseth of Kodak, Tennessee and Chuck (Shirley) Hegseth of Waucoma, Iowa; and a nephew, Christopher (Brittany) Hegseth.

John was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Phyllis Hegseth; and two nephews, Aaron Mechtel and Deon Hegseth.
