John Gerard Trey

John Gerard Trey, 62, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at his home. He was born on May 6, 1963, in Manchester, the son of Joseph and Ruth (Dietsch) Trey. John was a 1981 graduate of Edgewood-Colesburg High School. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa.

Over the years, John worked for Seedorff Masonry, Farmer Masonry, Cummer Masonry, and Berns Masonry. After 42 years, John retired from masonry work. It was time – he got older and it was a young man’s game. He ran his race and ran it well. You can see John’s work in many areas of the community.

John loved all types of sports and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed golfing with friends and family. John’s personality was larger than life. His quick wit lit up many rooms. John had a deep and unwavering love for family, and to John, nobody was ever a stranger – he welcomed everyone with warmth, humor, and an open heart.

Survivors include his son, Chase (Katie) Bushaw of Dubuque; four siblings, Chris (Jim) Russell of Centennial, Colorado, Jan (Tom) Millenkamp of Sherrill, Greg (Joyce) Trey of Strawberry Point, and Maribeth (Eric) Jensen of La Crosse, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joseph Trey, Jr. and Keith Trey.
