Judy Geralyn (Fortman) Nachtman

Judy Geralyn Nachtman, 59, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at her home in Manchester surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 13, 1962, in Dubuque, the daughter of Sylvester and Marcella (Elenz) Fortman. Judy grew up in the Worthington area and graduated from Western Dubuque in 1980. She then attended school at NICC in Peosta and became a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant.

On May 29, 1982, Judy was united in marriage to Gerald Nachtman at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington.  Four children were born to this union. Judy worked for Regional Medical Center’s home health care program for 36 years before retiring in 2019. Judy made many lasting impressions on the lives she touched. After retiring, Judy was a substitute bus driver for a year before her health declined.

Judy was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed gardening, and baking. Judy enjoyed spending time with her husband, fishing, and attending classic car shows and cruises. She also enjoyed vacationing and taking trips to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, and South Dakota. These were some of her favorite places. Judy most loved spending time with her family and truly enjoyed her grandchildren.

Survivors include Judy’s husband of 39 years, Gerald Nachtman of Manchester; her four children, Robert (Katherine Lamprecht) Nachtman of Waterloo, Laura (Wesley) Sedlacek of Cedar Rapids, Mindy (Curtis Davison) Nachtman of Manchester, and Sarah (Brian) Buehler of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Henry and Levi Sedlacek, Jackson and William Hofmeister, and Adam Buehler; her mother-in-law, Caroline Nachtman of Manchester, her three siblings, Janice (Leonard) Racine of Spring Valley, Illinois, David Fortman of Worthington, and Joyce (Delwyn) Curtis of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Marcella Fortman; and her father-in-law, John Nachtman.
