Kari Kae (Long) Sullivan

Kari Kae Long Sullivan, 49, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. She was born on April 4, 1973, in Manchester, the daughter of Walter and Linda (Tenney) Long. Kari was raised in rural Strawberry Point and educated at Central Community School in Elkader, graduating with the Central High School class of 1991. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.

Kari moved to Peoria, Illinois, for several years. She was united in marriage to Mike McMurtry and the couple moved to Germany. Kari worked as a security guard on the military base. Two children, Anthony and Sarah, were born to this union. Kari and her children relocated back to Strawberry Point in 1999.  Kari started her career at Rockwell Collins in Manchester.

On August 17, 2015, Kari was united in marriage to James Sullivan in Strawberry Point.  Kari was the tournament director for the Iowa Bass Nation Tournaments that Jim fished in. She enjoyed reading. Kari loved her pets, especially Ellie, her German Shepherd, and her two cats, Scooter and Kitty.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her two children, Anthony McMurtry of Independence and Sarah (John) Fletcher of Boone; two stepchildren, Stacey (Matt) Miller of Cascade and Caleb (Allison) Sullivan of Lakeland, Florida; five grandchildren, Kashten, Lennox, and Bowen Miller, and Lyla and Declan Sullivan; her mother, Linda Long of Strawberry Point; three siblings, Lori (Jeff) Robinson of Strawberry Point, Daniel (Dawn) Long of Peoria, Illinois, and Walt (Shonda) Long of Bondurant; her mother-in-law, Virginia Sullivan of Lamont; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, John (Becky) Sullivan of Manchester and Deb (Tom) Paris of Masonville.

Kari was preceded in death by her husband, James Sullivan; her father, Walter Long; and her father-in-law, Dean Sullivan.
