Kurt Allen Haynes, 69, of Lamont, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Mercy One Medical Center in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on April 16, 1952, in Manchester, the son of Victor and Betty (Goranson) Haynes. Kurt was raised on a farm near Strawberry Point and graduated from Starmont High School. In June of 1972 Kurt entered the Army where he was Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1974.
On July 13, 1974, Kurt was united in marriage to Kathleen “Kathy” Berger at Volga Methodist Church in Volga. Three children were born to this union. Kurt worked as a tire technician for 13 years before taking college courses for water, waste water and water distribution. He then become the director of Public Works (water/waste water) for the city of Lamont for 26 years. One year Kurt was awarded Region One Waste Water Operator of the Year. Kurt was also a member of the Lamont Fire Department for 29 ½ years.
Kurt enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and raising calves. He enjoyed doing anything outdoors. Kurt was an accomplished woodworker. He made a personalized cradle and rocking horse for each of his children. Kurt also made a cedar rocking horse for Kathy. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Kurt especially loved telling stories to the grandchildren. He always told his children and grandchildren, “You don’t get your common sense until you are 32”
Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of 47 years; his three children, Kevin (Relda) Haynes and Keith (Jessica) Haynes, both of Lamont, and Kelly (Layne) Hilsenbeck of Fairbank; his 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Danielle, Heather and Kristen Haynes, William, Steven and Emily Haynes, and Derek, Hayden and Kiana Hilsenbeck; his siblings, Vickie Moyle, Linda (Gerald) Druecker, Riley (Donna) Haynes and Victor (Kathy) Haynes; and many nieces and nephews.
Kurt was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Gail Knipper; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard Moyle, Joe Knipper, Kim Berger, Jim Berger, Janice (Ken) Newman; his niece, Carrie Weas and nephews Richie Moyle and Greg Knipper.
