LaVerne Robert Jones

LaVerne Robert Jones, 84, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at his daughter’s home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born on May 12, 1939, in Iowa, the son of Howard and Aileen (Adams) Jones. LaVerne was raised and educated in the Lamont area and was a 1956 graduate of Lamont High School. LaVerne served honorably in the United States Navy as an aviation mechanic. He then graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1963.

In June of 1962, LaVerne was united in marriage to Rita Carpenter. Three children were born to this union. LaVerne attended Iowa State University in 1963. He began farming north of Lamont in 1964. LaVerne enjoyed raising and showing Quarter Horses and watching rodeos. He also liked deer hunting.

Survivors include his three children, Cindia Durnil of Cedar Rapids, Michael Jones of Wisconsin, and Chris Jones of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Katelyn Durnil, Austin Durnil, Kyle Jones, and Brooke Jones; sisters-in-law, Kay (Douglas) Sage of Lamont and Gwen Jones of Lamont; and brother-in-law, Ron (Deb) Carpenter of Lamont.

LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita in 2022; son-in-law, William Durnil; and three brothers, Darwin (Lauretta), Verle, and Donald Jones.
