LaVerne Logan Obituary

LaVerne Howard Logan, 92, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on August 5, 1932, in Manchester, the son of Glenn and Vivian (Sly) Logan. LaVerne was raised in and attended school in Manchester, graduating from Manchester High School.

On November 29, 1952, LaVerne was united in marriage to Donna Joann Rizer in Elkader. Three children were born to this union.  He entered the United States Army on April 8, 1953, and was honorably discharged on March 24, 1955. After his time in the army, LaVerne started his career with the railroad. He loved his time spent there.

LaVerne enjoyed fishing, boating, long walks, and anything he could do in Lansing. He enjoyed his Wednesday coffee group, and his time spent with his railroad friends. LaVerne was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was proud of his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his two grandchildren, Samantha Hoveland of Dinwiddie, Virginia, and Courtney (John) Crow of Guttenberg; four great-granddaughters, Brooke, Ellie Jo, Paizley, and Etta; sister, Dorothy (Tom) Dashiell of Illinois; sisters-in-law, Sandy Kent of Manchester and Nancy Rizer-Schmidt of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Donna in 2023; daughter Roxann Frasher; two sons, Jerry Lee and Gary Dean Logan; his brother, Glenn Logan; sister Joann (Paul) Linden; and brothers-in-law, John Rizer and Harry Kent.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used for cancer research.
