Larry Cecil Hankins, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at his home. He was born on August 20, 1937, at home on the farm between Greeley and Edgewood, the son of Cecil and Vera (Voshell) Hankins. Larry was raised in Littleport and was a 1956 graduate of Elkader High School.
On July 16, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to LaVon Meyers at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. Two children were born to this union. They lived in Littleport for many years before moving to Elkader for a short amount of time. In 1969 the family moved to Maquoketa. Larry managed the UBC Lumber Yards in Elkader and then Maquoketa. In later years, Larry worked as the maintenance director at the nursing home in Maquoketa.
Larry enjoyed horses and loved going on trail rides. When he was younger, he competed in rodeos. Larry enjoyed going to stock car races to watch his family race. He also liked fishing. Larry loved his family and spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, LaVon Hankins of Maquoketa; his two children, Larry (Darla) Hankins of Edgewood and Lisa (Kris) Vohringer of Maquoketa; four grandchildren, Jason (Amber) Hankins, Becca (Travis) Bromley, Kile (Bri) Vohinger, and Lane Vohringer; eight great-grandchildren, Jozlynn, Dax, Alaya, Cora, Cash, Brinley, Knox, and Macie (deceased); stepmother, Patty Hankins of Strawberry Point; brother, Cecil (Tina) Hankins of Marion; sisters-and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Hankins of Crowder, Mississippi, Marv (Jeanne) Meyers of Louisville, Kentucky, Dinee (Bruce) Formo of Edgewood, and Virginia Gedeon of Louisville, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Terry Hankins and Gary Hankins; and brother-in-law, David Penn.
