Leo Fry Obituary

Leo Leroy Fry, 88, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2020. He was born on December 10, 1931, in Strawberry Point, the son of Augustus and Golda (Troupe) Fry. Leo was raised near Greeley by his grandpa Lewis and step-grandma Mamie Fry. He was a graduate of Greeley High School.

 

On November 5, 1951, Leo was united in marriage to Alice Marie Brady at the Congregational Church Parsonage in Edgewood. Five children were born to this union. Together they owned and operated their farm in rural Greeley. While farming Leo also worked as a hired hand for 17 years for John and Margaret Harris and then another 17 years for Chuck and Doris Gull. Before retiring in 2018, Leo worked for 27 years for his best friends Tom and Julie Schechtman.

 

When he was younger, Leo enjoyed hunting. He liked playing baseball and softball for many years. He also enjoyed playing cards.  Leo loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

 

Survivors include his five children, Deb (Marlen) Hakert of Manchester, Dee White of Earlville, Lonnie (Judy) Fry of Greeley, Brad (Sharon) Fry of Greeley, and Sue (Clyde) Palmer of Earlville; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice in 2010; one granddaughter, Jolene Hakert; one great-granddaughter, Brittney Marie White-Rennison; his five sisters, Irene Lincoln, Frances Phelps, Marguerite Sargent, Deanna Fry, and Helen Fry; and his five brothers, Robert, Donald, Leonard, Ralph, and Melvin Fry.
