Leo Christian Helle, Jr.

Leo Christian Helle, Jr., 84, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family. He was born on September 30, 1939, in Farley, the son of Leo and Frances (Clemen) Helle. Leo was raised and educated in Edgewood and was a 1957 graduate of Edgewood High School.

On April 28, 1960, Leo was united in marriage to Diana Chapman at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. Leo worked for Thermogas / Three Rivers FS for 47 ½ years.

Leo was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church. He taught religion classes for many years and was a Boy Scout Master. Leo was active in his community, volunteering with the Edgewood Ambulance Service and Edgewood Fire Department. Leo was also a member of the Edgewood City Council. Over the years, Leo and Diana enjoyed traveling together. Above all else, Leo loved his family and cherished spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Diana Helle of Edgewood; three children, Michael (Shawn) Helle of Knoxville, Joseph (Becky) Helle of Hiawatha, and Patrick Helle of Waukee; ten grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; four siblings; Charles (Nancy) Helle of Vinton, Daniel (Bonnie) Helle of Edgewood, Mary (Harold) Tegeler of Manchester, Mark (Sharon) Helle of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Kimberly Caudill in 2020.
