Leon Francis Boeckenstedt, 87, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the Clarksville Nursing Center in Clarksville. Leon was surrounded by his loving family the last weeks, days and hours before his death. He was born on July 2, 1937, in Dyersville, the son of Elmer and Josephine (Lansing) Boeckenstedt.
On September 14, 1963, Leon was united in marriage to Wilma Jane Oehler. Seven children were born to this union. Leon was a hard worker and worked at home farming with his parents. He also worked at Wilson’s in Cedar Rapids, then Ryan Coop, and retired from Henderson Manufacturing in Manchester.
Leon will be remembered for his strong wit, love for sports, and his competitive card and dice games. He loved to dance and play softball. Leon was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a very good supporter of his family, loyal to his church and workplace. Leon loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his seven children, Julie Brack of Iowa City, Joleen (Alan) Ward of Shell Rock, Jannell (Kelly) Boeckenstedt of Edgewood, Jeff (Sherry) Boeckenstedt of Manchester, Jill (Tim) McKeen of Charles City, Jason Boeckenstedt of Manchester, and Jerret Boeckenstedt of Manchester; 14 grandchildren, Amber, Dane, Dustin, Janee, Jordan, Jeremy, Bryan, Ben, Kaitlyn, Victoria, Henry, Tyler, Hannah, and Janean; 13 great-grandchildren, Haylee, Elizabeth, Andrew, Preston, Graylin, Garen, Carter, Hartley, Abel, Mavric, Margo, Milly, and Marlon; siblings, Elaine (LeRoy) Mullis, Agnes Wegman, Alice (Ray) Tegeler, Jane (Win) Thomas, Merle (Judy) Boeckenstedt.
Leon was preceded by his parents; his wife Wilma in 1988; Gary Brack, Bradley and Alan Becker. His siblings, Mary (Donald) Moorman, Aloysius (Marie) Boeckenstedt, Elmer “Bud” Boeckenstedt, and Gladys Boeckenstedt.
We will miss him dearly! We are very happy he can regain his happiness with his lost loved ones and deceased wife Wilma. May the Lord receive his soul into heaven at this joyous time of the Christmas Season!
