Lester Donald Muller, 87, of Oelwein, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at MercyOne Oelwein Medical Center in Oelwein. He was born on October 10, 1937, in Ackley, the son of Eilard and Pauline (Aldinger) Muller. Les was raised and educated in Ackley and was a 1956 graduate of Ackley High School. He then received his BA degree from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
On August 9, 1961, Les was united in marriage to Phyllis DeVries at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley. Two children were born to this union. Les worked for the Equifax Company for 32 plus years. During his retirement, he frequently worked as a substitute teacher for several neighboring school districts.
Les was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Oelwein Lions Club. He was an easy-going man who enjoyed gardening. Les enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his wife, Phyllis.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Muller of Oelwein; two children, Stacy (Kevin) Moellers of Fort Atkinson, and Brian (Jodi) Muller of Manchester; five grandchildren, Stephanie Moellers of Ames, Brett (Tiffany) Moellers of Dallas Center, Morgan (Colin) Thorson of Cedar Rapids, Zach (Breanna Recker) Muller of Manchester, and Kaylee Muller of Oregon; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene VanHove of Ackley; two brothers, Lavern Muller of Hampton and Kenneth (Lorna) Muller of Tipton; a sister-in-law, Della (Jim) Peters; and several nieces and nephews.
Les was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Ruth Muller; and brother-in-law, Calvin DeVries.
