Louis Francis Benn

 Louis “Louie” Francis Benn, 84, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood.  He was born on September 2, 1939, in Dubuque, the son of Herbert and Frances (Kremer) Benn. Louie was raised and educated in the Dyersville area.

On April 18, 1998, Louie was united in marriage to Ruth (Richter) Pohlman in Manchester. Louie was a lifetime dairy farmer and farmed south of Earlville. Louie retired from farming in 2005 and the couple moved to Manchester.

Louie was a member of Christ Community Church. He loved his cows and farming. Louie liked country music, westerns, cats, and watching the birds. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, bowling, and watching baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. Louie liked going to stock car races to watch Levi, his grandson, and Larry and Randy race. He enjoyed his car rides in the countryside. Most of all, Louie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Benn of Manchester; his four children, Larry (Cheryl) Benn of Dyersville, Randy Benn of Earlville, Lisa (Fran) Ernst of Dubuque, and Tim (special friend, Darla Fridley) Benn of Delhi; two step-daughters, Teri Krumm of Cedar Rapids, and Traci (Brian) Roling of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren, Levi (Jenn) Benn, Mercedes (Garrick) Wayne, Cole Benn, Morgan (Richard) Poulson, Brandon (Felicia Ivanov) Pohlman, Bryce, Rebecca, Holly, and Paige Roling, Ashley (Shawn) Olson, Tara (Robby) Keppler, and Alyssa Ernst; seven great-grandchildren, Makyla and Rilynn Benn, Harper Wayne, Natalie Krumm, Jadyn and Jenna Pohlman, and Cooper Olson; two sisters-in-law, Margie Benn and Linda Benn, both of Dubuque; brother-in-law, Jim (Theresa) Richter of Earlville; and many nieces and nephews.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Charles, Vernon, Herb, Tom, Ruth, Rosemary, Frances, Danny, Loras, Jim, and George; stepson, Doug Pohlman; and son-in-law, Leon Murphy.
