Margaret Duart Obituary

Margaret Ann “Peggy” Duart, 91, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at her home. Margaret, who was affectionally called Peggy, was born on July 10, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, to George and Clarice Penning.  She was an only child to this union.  Her mother died at the age of 29 when Peggy was two years old. After her mother’s death, she went to stay with relatives until the age of 18.  Peggy graduated from Lamont High School in 1947.  She went on to teacher-training college in Lamont to become a school teacher.  After her graduation, she taught school for one year in a one room school house outside of Masonville, Iowa.

Peggy met her future husband Bill at a dance in Manchester in 1946. They dated for two years and on August 26, 1948, she was united in marriage to Billie L. Duart.  From this union, seven children were born. In 1967, they moved from Independence, Iowa, to their forever home in Strawberry Point.  Here they raised their family and farmed 120 acres of land.  Bill and Peggy farmed until 2011 when they retired.  During their time on the farm, they milked cows, raised pigs and a variety of poultry and game birds. They met many wonderful people along the way and made lifelong friends.

Peggy enjoyed spending time in her garden and loved to cook.  She loved to travel and enjoyed her many trips to North Carolina and California with her son, Wayne.  She also loved to travel to Washington state to see her father and made several trips out there later in her life.  Peggy loved to make zucchini bread and continued to make this until this summer.  Everyone enjoyed her cooking and she put a lot of love into what she made.

Peggy is survived by two sons, Wayne and Bob, and three daughters, Melody, Sheryl (Brian), and Kimberly (special friend David); 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her niece and nephew, Ron and Carol Carlson.

Peggy was proceeded in death by her husband, Bill in 2015; one son, Billie D. in 1971; one daughter, Beverly in 2013; and her father in 2000.

Her proudest accomplishments were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Peggy was loved by so many and she will be missed greatly by everyone that knew her.  Her memory will be forever cherished in our hearts and we are comforted by knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.

Due to COVID-19 concerns and the governor’s proclamation, masks are required at the funeral home.
